Plant of the month for September is Daffodils. They can be planted in borders, grassland or containers. Plant bulbs early, deep enough and not too close. The daffodil is the national flower of Wales. Daffodils heralds the spring, but plant as early as possible in the autumn. Plant in a warm sunny side in soil which is well drained.

New for 2011! Prunus Frilly Frock is a magical little weeping tree with three outstanding features. Early spring flowering, attractive sharp variegation to the summer leaves, and striking multi-toned autumn tints. It is ideal for small gardens and also suitable for patios. If the branches are pruned back after flowering, the young vigorous growth displays the variegation to even better effect from mid-summer onwards. The leaves have the unusual peculiarity of developing their variegation from the centre of the leaf after it has fully expanded - a magical feature.
